A guide to a healthy heart
|
The word “heart” has become a figure of speech that denotes a lot of meaningful definitions. It has become associated with “essence,” “center,” “focus,” “passion,” and other similar terms. This is because the heart, the literal heart that is, is undoubtedly the most integral part of the human anatomy. It is the center of all the processes that transpire in the human body. Without the heart, we cease to exist… it’s as simple as that. The heart pumps six quarts of blood for our body in the span of a minute. Blood, of course, is needed for the functioning of our other organs. Located at the center of our chest, protected by a cavity that is formed by bones, the heart was designed to be properly protected, as it is the most vital body part, the very thing that keeps us ticking. Sadly, with all the things that modern day society has offered for our supposed enjoyment, and with the shift in general lifestyle experienced throughout the years, many hearts have suffered and a good number have actually succumbed to fatal failure. In this day and age, we are all susceptible to so many perils that endanger the essence of our existence. The heart should be cared for, as it is the key to a long and beautiful life. Here are some ways which would guarantee for us a healthier heart. * Quit smoking. This lesson has probably become passé throughout the years, but it is constantly being repeated because the ill effects of smoking cannot be denied. The tar and nicotine buildup caused by moderate to excessive smoking can and will lead to a lot of complications that would constrict the heart and eventually put an end to its functioning. Quitting the vile habit is easier said than done, however, but all one has to do is to always keep in mind that a longer, healthier life is compromised by his refusal to stop smoking. Cigarette sticks can give us temporary pleasure, but in the long run, a healthy heart would give us many, many years of enjoyment for ourselves and our families. * Eat a balanced diet. We should make sure that we are never deprived of the nutrients that we need for optimal living. Often, the dictates of our taste buds keep us away from healthy delicacies in favor of tastier delights. Also, when we engage on a diet plan to shred off some extra pounds, we neglect certain nutrients that are required for healthier living. The heart suffers much from any resultant deficiencies. And the heart also suffers from too much of the same things as well. Lack of carbohydrates can cause coronary heart disease, for example. Too much fat can lead to a heart attack. A balance must be maintained, one which will not deprive the heart of what it needs, and one which will not feed more than what it could take. * Exercise regularly. The heart is also the center of every physical activity. Regular workouts promote a stable blood pressure level and increase the heart’s resistance against debilitating diseases. It could also prevent the buildup of fats, which is bad for the heart. Try to consult with your physician and have your workout plan approved before putting the same into action, just to be in the safe side of things. * Be aware of your family’s history of heart disease. Sometimes, the laws of genetics dictate our ultimate fate, but this shouldn’t be taken to mean that there is nothing we could do about it. If our ascendants have a history of chronic heart disease, then we should pay attention to our heart all the more. Genetics may give a clue as to dangers our hearts face, but we are still in charge, and we could always steer away from aggravating causes. Matters of the heart are delicate things, be they of love, of passion, and of the literal sense. We have only one life to live and one heart that give us breath. We should take good care of it as much as we could.
